Editing and other support for academic papers and knitting patterns.

Academic Editing

I have over seven years of experience copy editing and proofreading academic texts in a variety of fields in the humanities and social sciences. I am familiar with conventions of the Chicago Manual of Style, as well as the style guides for the APA and MLA. In addition to copy editing and proofreading support, I can also help with formatting.

My training has been primarily in classics (I have two master’s degrees, one in ancient history with a focus on Greek ritual and the other in book publishing), but I am also interested in literature in English (particularly eighteenth–nineteenth centuries), some early modern philosophy, ethics, teaching English as a foreign language, and book history. Although I focus primarily on editing in English, I can spot check ancient Greek, Latin, German, and (Eastern) Armenian.

Knitting Pattern Support

I have nearly ten years of experience editing knitting patterns and preparing them for publication. My skills include tech editing (including a full check of all numbers/math, the clarity of the instructions, and accuracy of charts/schematics), proofreading, chart creation and formatting, schematic creation, pattern formatting (primarily in InDesign), and (size-inclusive) grading. I am also comfortable with formatting patterns that are not written in English (including non-alphabetic scripts), so if you have translations that need formating, I can help with that.

Past clients include Shibui Knits, Knit Picks, Harrisville Designs, Knit for the Soul, and Shel Designs.
